Pomegranate shrubs grow best in loamy soils with excellent drainage. Adding a thin layer of mulch is recommended. Plant in an area that gets a full 6 hours of sun a day. Chalk, loam, peat, sand–any of these or a combination of them will be a suitable growing medium.
If potting, plant with a high quality lightweight soil and add slow-release fertilizer. Pomegranate shrubs need adequate amounts of nitrogen to grow strong.
