These gorgeous torch-like flowers grow 4-5 ft tall in height. They can be potted or simply planted in the grown. Hummingbirds feed from them and so do butterflies. Unlike many wildflowers, these can also be grown near lakes, ponds and other wetland areas and survive in boggy soils. Plant in full sun to partially shaded areas. Water regularly to ensure the soil doesn’t dry out.
Cardinal flowers are tall, bold and beautiful red-colored wildflowers that never go unnoticed. Companion plant in rows with Hostas (featured in 4th image above) or other colorful flowers and herbaceous plants for a bright, well thought-out landscaping display.

Germination procedure: Plant in fall for spring flowers, otherwise apply cold/moist stratification in the freezer for 2-3 months before sowing. These seeds require sunlight to sprout. Likewise, surface sow the seeds overtop of pre-moistened soil, gently pressing them just enough to stay put. Take care when watering to use a spray mister or a light pour during the germination phase to prevent the tiny seeds from falling into the soil mix and away from the sunlight.
