Parris Island Romaine Seeds
This variety is a very popular southern romaine, vigorous with creamy white hearts when grown in the garden, and delicious
when grown as a microgreen.
This Romaine lettuce is an old favorite. It grows an upright, dark grey-green 8 to 12″ head with a neatly folded, slightly savoyed creamy-white heart. This variety has
good heart production and vigorous growth. It transplants well under stressful conditions. Tip burn and mosaic tolerant, it was developed to replace Dark Green Cos. It is named after Parris Island, off the coast of South Carolina. Gardeners with just a small amount of space can grow leaf lettuce but, if you have more space, you can try growing larger varieties, such as Parris Island romaine lettuce. All types of lettuce (Lactuca sativa) enjoy cooler temperatures, so it is best to grow them in the early spring or late summer and fall. Romaine lettuce produces a head that is about 8 inches tall on a plant that is about 1 foot in height and diameter. When planting, space each seedling about 18 inches apart so that the lettuce has room to grow.
To grow in the garden: Sow seeds 1/8 inch deep, 1 inch apart in rows 12 to 18 inches apart. When plants have two or three true leaves, thin to 12-inch spacing
