This loose leaf tea goes by many names; Iron wort, Shephard’s tea, or Tsai tou Vounou(Greek for “tea of the mountain”). It is the dried leaves and flowers from the Sideritis plant and is cultivated in Greece and surrounding countries. Ours is harvested on the beautiful slopes of Mt. Parnon in the East Peloponnese.
Most regions have their own local name for this tea, but they all seek it out for its unique flavor and its medicinal properties.
Traditionally, this tea is widely served to boost your immune system or to help ease ailments such as aches, pains, indigestion, or common cold. Chances are, if you tell an elderly Greek woman you are sick, they will tell you to drink a cup of this tea.
For the perfect cup, brew a handful of Mountain Tea in boiling water on the stovetop, for 5-6 minutes. Strain and enjoy with a dollop of Village Batch’s Organic Wildflower Honey.
