A popular vegetable or culinary herb in Thailand (and many Asian countries and Africa) that can be eaten raw like a tiny cucumber or cooked. Found in many Thai delicacies like soup, curry, stir fried, etc. It is a robust and hardy plant that is easy to grow from seeds. It is a perennial herbaceous vine, drought tolerant and easily cared in the garden or landscape. It is similar to cucumber and squash, though unlike those it is perennial with heart-shaped leaves, attractive white flowers, and green small immature fruits that turn beautiful red when ripe. Every part of the plant is edible and has therapeutic properties, be it root, leaves, stem, fruits (unripe and ripe), as well as flowers.
Sowing:
Sow about 2-3 seeds in a pot. The seed usually germinates within 2 – 4 weeks. It prefers full sun and well-drained soil. Since Ivy gourd is an aggressive climbing vine, the more you harvest, the more it grows back. It does not require fertilization but doing so would prove to be rewarding.
