They will Mature to a Height & Width of appx. 8′ Feet. The Trunk is Very Low to Subterranean in Younger Plants, but Lengthens above Ground with Age. The Basal Leaflets become more like Spines. The Stems of the Sago are Long and Have Small Protective Barbs that Must be Avoided.

Sago Palm Germination:
Seeds of the Sago Palm are Huge and about the Size of a Golf Ball. Like All Tropical & Exotic Seeds, be Prepared to Wait Patiently, as Sago Palm Seed Germination may take Several Months but are More than Worth the Wait. In Preparing Sago Palm Seeds for Planting, to Soften the Outer Shell enough to Break Dormancy, Soaking in Water for 5-7 Days Before Planting. Water Must be Changed Daily. To Minimize Bacteria or Fungus Growth, Dip the Seeds in a Solution of 10 Parts Water to 1 Part Bleach, and Rinse them with Water Afterwards. Inspect them on a weekly basis and repeat and re pot in fresh soil if you notice any Fungus or Mold starting to Grow on the Seed. As soon as the Shell starts to Soften, they’re Ready to be Planted. To begin Growing your Sago Palm from Seed, You will Need a Quality Pair of Gloves, as the Seeds do Contain Toxins. With Gloved Hands, Push the seed sideways in the seed starting soil mix. Avoid burying the seed — keep about one-third of the seed above soil level placing the flat side of the seed Up. So, arrange the Seeds in the Tray Horizontally. Next, Cover the Seeds with a piece of plastic to retain high humidity. Place the Tray in a Warm Location Indoors which will Not go Below 70 F. (21 C.). Use a Heated Propagator keeping temperatures between 75-100 Degrees F*. This Will Not Only Improve the Germination Percentage, but will also Help to Speed up Germination. In Addition, Keep a High Humidity Level by Covering the Tray with a Lid or Plastic for Optimal results. Sago Seeds Need a Temperature between 70 and 100 F in order to Germinate. Keep the Tray Consistently Moist through the Whole Germination Process, but Never Wet as this will cause Root Rot. Expect Germination to be Sporadic, and beginning anywhere from 3-4 Weeks, & all the way up to Several Months for some with each Seed Sprouting at it’s own Time. Allow the Seedlings to Grow in the Tray at Least 3-4 More Months before Attempting to Transplant them into Larger Pots.
