The Star Glory, or Cardinal Creeper Vine is Original to the Tropics of South America and, Though an Semi Hardy Perennial, it Spreads Quickly by Self-Seed Propagation after the Die Back from Winter and the Seeds it drops will Sprout again when Spring arrives. It Grows Rapidly Reaching 10-20 Feet, but is not Sturdy and Requires Support to Grow Upright. The Delicate, Fern-Like Foliage Recoils from Direct Sunlight but Expands Blooms after Sundown. The Bright Scarlet Red Flowers are Small, Blooming from Early Summer to Fall Frost and are Very Attractive to Butterflies and Hummingbirds. Ipomoea quamoclit goes by the names Cypress Vine, Hummingbird Vine, Star-glory, Cypress Vine Morning Glory, Cardinal Creeper, Cardinal Vine, and Cardinal Climber. The Vine was called Hummingbird Vine due to the Abundance of Hummingbirds as their Visitors. Its Average Height is around 6 to 10 Feet, but Sometimes can Extend up to 20 Feet. As the Main Attraction, this Vine’s Flowers are Showy and Attention-Grabbing for Landscape Users and Wildlife. The Cypress Vine gives Rise to Tubular Flowers with it’s Petals Forming a Star Shape with it’s Five Lobes.

Star Glory Germination:
1) Sand the shell of the seeds with a piece of sandpaper really well, just not deep.
2) Soak the seeds in water for 24 hours.
3) Plant the seeds in a well draining & sterile seed starting potting soil. Do not bury completely, just be sure to only cover them with a thin layer of soil or sand.
4) Use a heated propagator mat to keep the temperature at 80 degrees F during the day, and drop it to 65 degrees at night. Alternating the temperature is Very important for the seeds to germinate.
5) Cover the seeds with a plastic dome, or piece of plastic to help retain moisture. Check every other day to be sure that the soil stays moist. Not wet. If needed, simply mist with a spray bottle to keep the soil moist.
6) Germination should occur anywhere between 5-14 days.
