Description:
Rebutia minuscula is
a flattened
globular cactus, whose apex (where the growing point is, at the
top of the cactus) is hollow depressed. It shows a dark green epidermis,
visible between the tiny oblong areolas. These areolas are arranged on very
weak nipples (or tubercles), aligned in spiral ribs. They each carry 20 to 30
thin spines of light color, sometimes with a tawny tip, bristling in all
directions, thus protecting the epidermis. Its flowers appear large in relation
to the size of the plant. Those are tubular flowers that open wide, when
its multiple welded tepals open out. A fleur measures about 4cm wide,
sometimes up to 6.5cm in shape grandiflora. And this cactus is not stingy.
Germination:
Rebutia minuscula is very easy to
grow. It is kept in a plastic or terracotta pot proportionate
to its size, with no more than 0.5 to 3 cm of free-soil surface around the
plant. Ideally, when the plant becomes wider than it is tall, it is installed
in a pot in the shape of a mini basin. Seedlings are tiny and slow to grow at
first, then speed up. They are protected from direct sunlight and their
substrate should not be dry for more than 3 to 4 days if they are not 7 mm in
diameter. It is very tolerant, it can be easily grown in a cacti mixture,
to make yourself or to buy ready-made, i.e., 1/3 of well-decomposed potting
soil, 1/3 of sand or gravel 1/3 of loam well
refined. It can even possibly grow very well in pure loam, with a pH around
neutral.
