Grow Zones: 9,10,11 (or indoors)
The asparagus fern is an excellent choice for indoor gardeners who enjoy an easy to care for potted houseplant that will grow fast and look aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Sprengeri ferns have a whimsical look as they are very light and flowing looking. It does need a sunlight source however is easy to prune due to it being lightweight and can be as long or as short as you desire by giving it a little trim. Water requirements are medium to low. And once a year it will produce new seeds housed inside the inedible red fruits seen in the photo above. You can pick them off, take the seed out of the red pulp berries for saving or give them to a friend as a gift.
Asparagus Sprengeri Ferns also look good outdoors in a hanging pot or as a lightweight sprawling bush that functions as an accent to other colorful flowers. I imagine it would look great growing next to a walkway near a koi fish pond amongst other perennial flowers such as pink showy evening primrose or something of the like.
Germination Procedure: Seeds sprout in 70-80 degree soil temperatures. Soak seeds in water overnight before sowing. Sow seeds onto the surface of the soil, only sprinkling light soil over the seeds as, they require sunlight to germinate. Keep the seeds and soil moist throughout the germination phase.
